AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 9, 2010 (IBC2010, Stand 7.G20) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, demonstrated the latest enhancements to its Videotek® test and measurement product line at IBC2010. The developments address the real-world challenges of today's broadcaster — from loudness measurement and 3D support to compressed stream monitoring and portable troubleshooting.
Loudness Measurement and Control
Harris demonstrated the new LLM-1770 loudness logger and monitor — a compact audio monitoring tool that makes it easy to confirm compliance with the latest loudness requirements. Loudness and True Peak measurements are made to the ITU-R BS.1770 international loudness standard with five times oversampling. Settings are included that match the EBU R-128 and ATSC A/85 recommendations. The LLM-1770 comes with four AES inputs, with an option for SDI embedded from SD, HD or 3 Gb/s sources.
Harris announced loudness enhancements to its TVM series of multiformat signal analyzers and VTM series of multiformat onscreen monitors. New options for loudness allow existing TVM/VTM Series users to upgrade to support the ITU-R BS.1770 standard, as well as the EBU R-128 and ATSC A/85 recommendations.
Harris also unveiled new features for the CMN-LA loudness analyzer, which began shipping in July, including AES and Dolby input options. Please note that the CMN-LA and LLM-1770 will also be shown in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), booth number 10.D21.
3D Support
Harris introduced new 3DTV signal monitoring for its VTM-4150PKG monitor and TVM-9150PKG signal analyzer packages — ideal for 3D post production and monitoring. New displays have the capability to show four pictures simultaneously, and can be a combination of Left Eye-Right Eye, Mix, Split, Left Minus Right, and anaglyph.
Compressed Stream Analysis
Debuting at IBC is a new, compact 1RU version of the QuiC™ media analysis server, a file-based platform that verifies the quality of compressed digital content. Featuring integrated storage and enhanced performance, the QuiC 1RU system provides loudness evaluation based on the ITU-R BS.1770 standard. Software upgrades provide enhanced flexibility and include support for the Panasonic® AVC-Intra™ codec, MXF Operational Pattern Atom (OP-Atom) and Panasonic® P2® format. Upcoming releases include support for Apple® ProRes 422 and MP4 audio formats, as well as XML/HTML reporting.
Harris also demonstrated the new Multi-Source Analyzer (MSA) Series, first launched at the 2010 NAB Show, which offers solutions that couple confidence monitoring with full testing of compressed video conformance, audio level, data services and ETR-290 on any terrestrial broadcast, cable headend, satellite or telco network. With two compact 1RU platforms available (MSA-100 and MSA-300), customers can select the I/O configuration, channel capacity and system redundancy that meet their specific needs. The MSA now provides enhanced performance of the remote user interface, and features CC608 analysis and improved bit rate analysis.
Signal Analysis (including 3 Gb/s)
Harris introduced the new CVM-306 multiformat signal analyzer, part of its Compact Monitor series, which features integrated video/audio signal monitoring in an affordable, compact package. Three versions are available: SD, HD/SD and 3 Gb/s/HD/SD. Both the SD and HD/SD versions are upgradeable to 3 Gb/s. All three possess two SDI inputs and selectable waveform, vector, gamut, timing and full-screen picture display.
Visitors can also see the VTM-3GI technology demo, which provides eye and jitter analysis of 3 Gb/s input signals with filter selection.
Handheld Testing
IBC2010 marks the European launch of SD-STAR™ — a handheld, battery-powered, personal monitor and test generator for SD-SDI and analog composite video signals. Part of the award-winning Videotek STAR handheld test instruments family, the unit delivers functionality including a video test signal generator, color monitor, waveform monitor, vectorscope, oscilloscope and audio analyzer/monitor. It is ideal for monitoring field-production camera setup, equipment installs or troubleshooting signal-path issues.
