AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 10, 2009 (IBC2009, Stand 7.G20) — At IBC2009, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has announced it is continuing to expand its Europe, Middle East and African (EMEA) Broadcast Communications operations. New initiatives — including the launch of the 24-hour Quick Ship program in EMEA, the opening of new facilities and the expansion of the regional team — underscore the commitment of Harris Broadcast Communications throughout the region. "Despite the current global economic challenges, Harris Broadcast Communications has been growing in EMEA," said Richard Scott, vice president, Europe, the Middle East and Africa operations, Harris Broadcast Communications. "We have seen success across our product portfolio, particularly within our server and transmitter lines. We are planning aggressive growth in the next year through market share gain on all fronts, and we're confident we can achieve this goal due to the breadth of our portfolio. Nordic and Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa are but some of the markets where we see tremendous potential." Harris Quick Ship program "This offer is proof of our commitment to the broadcast industry in the region, as well as our understanding of the challenges that broadcasters face," said Scott. "Broadcasters need equipment fast, especially when it comes to basic infrastructure, and we are confident that we can deliver." Office Openings Around the Region Expansion of the EMEA Harris Team "We are making significant investments to support our expansion in the region, all of which clearly illustrates that our theme for this year's IBC, 'Always Innovating, Always There,' is more than just a catchphrase," said Scott. Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models. About Harris Corporation
Following the tremendous success of the Harris Quick Ship program in the U.S., Harris is now launching the program in EMEA. Covering a number of key infrastructure products including frames, multiplexers and demultiplexers, HD converters, distribution amplifiers, small routers and control panels, the program ensures that orders of this nature are ready to ship within 24 hours. To celebrate the EMEA launch of this program, Harris is offering a "ready to ship within 24 hours or it's free" policy until January 1, 2010, (subject to terms and conditions).
Building upon the opening of the Central European regional headquarters in Munich in 2008, Harris is continuing its expansion across Europe with a number of other similar openings. Recently, Harris debuted its new Dublin premises, which houses the worldwide headquarters of the multiviewer technology group. Harris is planning to expand its existing operations in Italy and France in the coming months. Its current plans also include expansion into Russia and Spain. "The opening of regional hubs across Europe underlines our genuine efforts to get as close to our customers as possible," said Scott. "In areas like Russia, for example, we see a local presence as the key to mutual success for both the customer and Harris. This approach has already been extremely rewarding in the context of central Europe, where our Munich office and expanded team have had a very positive impact on our success there."
Harris also is expanding the EMEA broadcast communications team, with recent personnel additions in Africa and central and southern Europe. Andy Newham has recently transferred from the central European team to the growing ranks of the African team headed by Sally Wallington, regional sales director for the United Kingdom, Israel and South Africa. Newham will be working alongside Harris sales manager Vic Reardon across Africa, bringing his extensive experience with non-transmitter Harris broadcast products into the African sub-region, and will also assume the role of regional sales manager for Israel. Sales manager Susan Harrison continues to focus on the South African market and has also assumed responsibility for a number of major Harris accounts in the United Kingdom. There also have been a number of recent technical and sales appointments in Central Europe, the Middle East and Southern Europe, including the announcement of regional sales manager Olivier Femenias, who will focus on Belgium, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
