Sony Unveils New 27-inch HD Medical Monitor Featuring the Industry’s Brightest Panel at ACS 2014
Posted on Monday, October 27, 2014

Highlights also include Sony’s full line of medical video recorders, including 2 new affordable models with still image capture, plus 4K & 3D technologies for robotic & endoscopic applications

Park Ridge, N.J. (ACS Booth #501) – Oct. 27, 2014Sony Electronics’ Medical Systems Division is introducing its first 27-inch surgical monitor, designed with the industry’s brightest panel, for use in operating rooms, medical centers, clinics, and doctor’s offices. The monitor’s 27-inch screen provides a larger viewing area and fits onto the same carts and boom arms that currently take 26- inch models.

The new monitor features Sony’s unique OptiContrast Panel™ technology, which replaces the layer of air between the panel and glass with a layer of resin specially formulated to match the refractive properties of the glass, designed to produce high-contrast images, minimize glare, and increase brightness. The monitor incorporates an edge-to-edge glass protection panel with a narrow bezel, robust aluminum housing and a removable rear cover to hide connectors and manage cables neatly.

Sony’s new 27-inch surgical monitor is available in two versions: the LMD-2760MD (digital only interface) and the LMD-2765MD (digital and analog interface) and it displays full HD (1920×1080) images from surgical endoscope/laparoscopic camera system and other compatible medical imaging systems.

Sony is leading the way in OR visualization with cutting-edge, cost effective products,” said Anne Bondulich, marketing manager, surgical products, Sony Electronics’ Medical Systems Division. “Surgeons rely on the quality of the video images when performing minimally invasive procedures. Sony is committed to developing superb imaging technology as well as solutions that help to improve the workflow in and out of the OR.”

Sony is highlighting its 3D end-to-end solution designed for robotic and endoscopic applications, and also showing 4K surgical video recently captured at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. The Sony camera used was the F55, the same 4K models now in use on movie, TV and live event locations worldwide. The clarity, resolution and detail of the 4K images hold great potential for increased visualization during or after a procedure.

Sony’s 2D and 3D visualization technologies at ACS 2014 also include:

Sony’s 3D medically compliant displays – a 32 inch monitor, the LMD-3251MT; and a 24-inch model, LMD-2451MT – designed for use with 3D endoscopic and robotic systems.  Recommended by Intuitive for da Vinci systems, Sony’s 3D solution allows the entire operating room staff to view exactly what the primary surgeon is seeing through the console.    Surgeons can see in 3D—versus the traditional 2D for endoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries—and benefit from improved depth perception and spatial orientation.

Sony also offers the ability to record and play back in 3D, with the HVO-3000MT, which is ideal for training and education of other surgeons and OR staff.

Sony is unveiling two new affordable surgical recorders that incorporate still image capture.   The new HVO-500MD/SUR and the HVO-550MD/SUR (with DVD optical drive) feature full HD resolution, MPEG-4 video recording, USB connectivity, and network recording capabilities. Users can simultaneously record to an internal hard drive and to an optional DVD disc (HVO-550 only), a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive.   The recorders’ 500GB internal hard drive stores up to 85 hours of HD video and provides easy access to previously recorded cases.
