LECTROSONICS INTRODUCES SMV SERIES TRANSMITTERS

Rio Rancho, NM – October 2009… Lectrosonics, recognized the world over as a leading manufacturer of wireless microphone systems and audio processing products, announces the introduction of the SMV Series transmitters. The latest addition to the company’s highly acclaimed Super Miniature product line, the new SMV and SMQV transmitters feature Lectrosonics’ patented Digital Hybrid Wireless® technology from their acclaimed 400 Series product group.

Variable RF power is a key attribute of the new SMV Series transmitters. The Lectrosonics SMV transmitter features selectable 50 mW and 100 mW settings while the SMQV offers selections for 50 mW, 100 mW, and 250 mW. Both transmitters are also splash and sweat-proof—thanks to the specially designed, machined-aluminum housings. The new SMV Series transmitters also incorporate a variable high-pass filter that enables custom-tailoring of the units’ audio response for speech or full-range program material. A circular isolator in the RF output circuit of the SMV Series units greatly reduces the likelihood of intermodulation products occurring at the transmitters.

Lectrosonics’ Digital Hybrid Wireless technology used in the SMV Series features a proprietary algorithm to encode 24-bit digital audio information with no compression and low distortion into an analog format that can be transmitted in a robust manner over an analog FM wireless link. The result is much higher dynamic range—free from sonic artifacts— than wireless systems using a compandor are able to offer. Digital Hybrid Wireless technology delivers exceptional operating range, graceful signal decay, and a small spectral footprint, facilitating more channels to be operated simultaneously. In addition, a special compatibility mode enables the SMV Series transmitters to be used with a variety of receiver types, including Lectrosonics’ 100 and 200 Series, along with receivers from two other manufacturers.

The diminutive size of Lectrosonics’ new SMV Series transmitters facilitates inconspicuous placement—a particularly important attribute for theatrical, sports, TV, and film production applications. The optional RM remote control allows the changing of settings, such as locking out the front panel or inducing sleep mode with the SMV Series transmitters without contact or the requirement of line-of-sight.

Lectrosonics new SMV Series transmitters are available in nine different frequency blocks covering 470 – 691 MHz. Specifications include a frequency response of 32 Hz to 20 kHz +/- 1 dB, a signal to noise ratio of 111 dB (A weighted), and selectable RF output of 50 mW and 100 mW for the SMV and 50 mW, 100 mW, and 250 mW for the SMQV.

Karl Winkler, Lectrosonics’ Director of Business Development, commented on the company’s new SMV Series transmitters. “The robust build quality and diminutive form factor of our SM Series products has been very well received by audio professionals working in a variety of disciplines,” notes Winkler. “These small units have been used extensively for TV and film production, as well as in theater presentations because they can easily be concealed. They’ve also proven themselves rugged enough to be placed in the shoulder pads of NFL football players to give sports fans a live, on-the-field perspective of the action. Building upon the experience and success of our earlier ‘Super Mini’ models, the new SMV Series transmitters take Lectrosonics’ engineering expertise to the next level. With their selectable RF power settings and our company’s field-proven sonic excellence, I’m confident our customers will find much to like.”

Lectrosonics’ new SMV Series transmitters will be available in November 2009. The MSRP is $1,725 for the SMV and $1,832 for the SMQV.
