MPEG compressed video underlies the basic infrastructure of all modern video distribution networks. Quite often content is distributed far afield from where it was created, by people who do not acknowledge its origins. The owners of content feel justified in branding their content with a small semi-transparent graphical logo that is not easy to remove. Also, everyone wants to generate extra revenue by inserting video or graphical adverts over or spliced into existing content. Others wish to add data or text to annotate the video or provide emergency alerts. Our SSAI Ad Serter™ IP/ASI/SDI: ON PREMISES family of products is a costeffective software-based system that inserts video clips, ads, graphics, text, and logos anywhere on your live or stored content in real time. As you may expect, it works by decoding the transport stream, overlaying the graphics, and transcoding the result. This process is computationally intensive and requires a 16 core processor to be effective. Traditionally in North America, splicing local advertisements into live streams requires a playout server and SCTE 35 (for IP) or SCTE 104 (for SDI) based ad splicer. The SSAI Ad Serter combines the server and splicer, plus an SCTE 35 or SCTE 104 decoder. In other parts of the world, ad initiation arrives via IP or RS485 signaling.
